Permit Gum Healing Through Periodontal Surgery
To get rid of tartar and harmful bacteria from the root surfaces so as to permit healing and gum-reattachment is the primary goal of periodontal surgery or periodontal therapy. To keep plaque under control an individualized home care regimen is devised for the dental patient. The sticky, colorless film of bacteria mixes with saliva and food debris is known as plaque, when not removed can harden into tartar or calculus which cause gum disease. Have tartar removed by a dental hygienist through the procedure called scaling because it is the only way to remove it. Controlling the levels of plaque through proper home care is critical to the success of the periodontal treatment.
