Gum Disease Treatments Depending On The Severity Of Infection

It is through deep cleaning method called scaling and root planing that the periodontitis or dental hygienist removes plaque. When the periodontist perform scaling, the tartar is being removed above and below the gumline. When dental hygienist performs root planing he gets rid of spots on the roots of the teeth where germs are gathered, and helps eradicate bacteria that contributes to the disease. There are certain medications that are used with treatment that includes scaling and root planing, but they cannot replace dental surgery. The dentist may still suggest surgical treatment, depending on the severity of the gum disease. And to determine whether using medications reduces the need for surgery and whether they are effective over a long period of time, long-term studies will be determined.
